Larimar adorns this stunning squash blossom necklace set. Made and hallmarked by Navajo artist Thomas Francisco, it measures approximately 24" long with a 2-1/2" Naja hanging from the center. Set includes necklace and earrings. The "naja" is one of the main features of a traditional squash blossom necklace. It is designed after a Moorish symbol to ward off "the evil eye" and brought to the Americas by the Spaniards who adorned their horses with the symbol on their bridal or chest plate. The Navajo adopted the symbol and created their own ideas about it's design and meaning. The blossoms, styled after the adornments on Spaniard's clothing became another part of the necklace, and combining the two became the beautiful and intriguing squash blossom necklace. You can find these Navajo necklaces being made as far back as the late 1800's.
